Pregnancy, Childbirth and Raising a Family
Sick chicks deal with numerous issues already, and the process of starting a family adds a whole new list of concerns into the mix. Check out these resources if you're considering becoming a ChronicMom. (And yes, we're talking about moms who grow their own kiddies as well as those who adopt.)
LactMed: Medications and Breastfeeding
Ever wonder if your baby will absorb your medications through breast milk? Thinking about starting or stopping a medication while breastfeeding?
You should always speak with your doctors about these questions, but in the meantime, check out LactMed, "a peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed," a resource from the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Search for any medication and get information on its known effects on lactating mothers, on infant absorption rates, and possible alternative medications to consider.
