Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology

Resistance truly is futile. A certain Babe's mom who once feared the computer got her own in her late 50s. Now, technology makes her work easier and helps her understand her students better.

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology would be proud. It aspires to involve women in the creation and use of technology for the benefit of all. Send them an e-mail at information@anitaborg.org to request the newsletter.

Center for Women's Business Research

We rather like the term Pink Mafia (if one may use the term colloquially).

And, dare we say, if the term applied to any group, it would be the Center for Women's Business Research. They claim to be the go-to source about women entrepreneurs, influencing the direction of programs and policies for corporations and government alike. Starting a biz? You must visit its resource page for help on everything from loans to technical assistance.

International Women's Rights Action Watch

When we feel down in the dumps, we find it useful to focus on someone other than ourselves.

With a world of women seeking parity in government, the economy, health, and so many areas of life, there's always someone in need. Enter the International Women's Rights Action Watch (IWRAW). Essentially, it encourages women's rights through reporting on how countries uphold or disregard human rights' treaties. Contact IWRAW to get involved.

Nontraditional Employment for Women

NEW trains women to go into construction and other blue-collar forms of work.

If you're in New York City and you see a woman working in a hard hat, she's probably a graduate of Nontraditional Employment for Women. The site has info about NEW programs, plus testimonials from happy graduates.

Webgrrls

Webgrrls International provides a forum for women in new media and technology to network, exchange business leads, mentor and teach, and learn the skills to help them succeed in an increasingly technological workplace and world.

Whether you're looking for a job in technology or need encouragement to keep your spirits up in the mostly male world of high tech, Webgrrls offers a great place to start for babes trying to fit into that world. One word of caution, though—the opening screen is copy-heavy and a bit hard to navigate.

Wired.com's Regina Lynn

Regina Lynn offers her sassy yet thoughtful views on the crossroads of sex and high-tech in her weekly Wired magazine column.

Get Lynn's take on the pitfalls of online dating, "Online Dating Lacks Dimension," complete with X-rated links. Or have a laugh at her expense as she reacts to readers' reactions to one of her columns, "Regina Lynn Is All Woman."

Women Employed

Women Employed advocates for women's economic wellbeing.

Women Employed: the fine folks who helped make sexual harassment, you know, illegal. These days they work to improve the plight of working women who hold "jobs with low pay, unpredictable work schedules, meager benefits, and little opportunity for advancement." Check out the 2007 legislative agenda.

Women In Media & News

Women In Media & News (WIMN) examines women's roles in public discourse and advocates for a greater role for women in all media.

To increase women's presence in the public debate, WIMN is especially concerned with those who have the least voice: women of color, low-income women, lesbians, youth and older women. WIMN's articles, lecture series, conferences and media trainings examine how the media represent women and educate and train women to hold the media accountable and to grow women's voices in the media. The group blog, WIMN's Voices, lets women from all walks of life air their views on how women fare in the media and how they can increase their share of voice.

Workin' 9 to 5

...What a way to make a livin'! Okay, we'll stop singing now.

Predating the famous Dolly Parton film was and has been 9 to 5, National Association of Working Women. Punchcard-packin' mamas, this group goes to the mat for women who need to work for a living. If you've got a story for their advocates, send it on in. You might make the difference in changing the work conditions for many.
