Sometimes you just need to yell!

Sometimes, no matter what anyone says or what's going on, you just need to yell. You need to scream, you need to cry, you need to howl. Because sometimes, being a ChronicBabe sucks. Now, I know this is not what you're used to hearing from me. It's not a sentiment I express often. But I have to just throw this out there: every once in a while, no matter how good you are at managing your chronic, something is going to happen that is just a little too much.

Chronic in the Kitchen: Winter squash soup

Winter squashes like acorn and butternut are sweet and tasty, and their bright orange flesh is packed with beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant/anti-inflammatory which benefits the immune system and cardiovascular system. It's low in calories (a 1 cup serving has about 80 calories) and high in fiber, which makes it a hearty yet healthy choice. This soup really lets the squash's flavor shine, and it's one of the simplest you'll ever make - and as a bonus, it freezes beautifully.

Chronic in the Kitchen: Lots of fish in the sea!

It seems that news about dangerous levels of mercury in fish is everywhere these days. As reported here on ChronicBabe.com and elsewhere last week, a California-based supermarket chain has introduced a line of low-mercury fresh fish in response to consumer concerns. This is a great idea, and definitely a step in the right direction, but there are other things you can do so that you can continue to enjoy all of the flavor and health benefits of seafood, while minimizing your intake of the bad stuff that sometimes comes along with it.

LadyBlogger #5: Managing the Sweetness Within

Here's the fifth edition of LadyBloggers, where we profile a ChronicBabe who's doing superior writing. There are so many great web sites out there created by, and for, ChronicBabes. But sometimes it can be hard to find them! LadyBloggers is a way to connect you with some of our favorite resources, and offer a peek at why and how these women are sharing their voice in the community. And maybe we'll spark some creativity in you, too! If you want us to profile your web site, let us know and we'll consider your project.

A bottle of juice in the shower

Babe Kerri opens a window on surviving her worst fear: experiencing a low blood sugar while living along for the first time. "I ignored the headache at first. I soaped up my hair, enjoying the way my sunburn ached a little bit under the pressure of the water. A few minutes passed. The headache was still there. I caught myself staring at the shampoo bottle; I had it in my hand and was fixated on the phrase 'Rinse,' wondering why it didn't say, 'Rinse and repeat.' My eyes unfocused like I was trying to see the sailboats behind one of those magic eye pictures. And there I stood. Still had that headache.
