Blog Carnival #38: Gettin' Our Gratitude On
Welcome to our second annual Gratitude edition of the ChronicBabe blog carnival.
Since next week is the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S., there is no better time to celebrating the trully awesome people, places and things around us. And while we know that some folks with chronic illness have a hard time finding things to be grateful for, that's not the case with our fabulous ChronicBabes!
Please enjoy this baker's dozen of gratitude posts sent to us by our fellow ChronicBabes—plus that one extra special post from an equally awesome ChronicDude, too.
Grateful for You
Our spouses and significant others are at the top of our gratitude lists! Phylor counts all the ways her partner has been there for her during their 29-year relationship and all the things she thanks him for in He's a Keeper: an Ode to Gratitude. Read it to remind youself of all the wonderful things your partner does for you too at Phylor's Blog: chronic pain, life, and all that.
After a year with some very big changes, Laurie find herself grateful for the smaller things in her life, things that now seem somehow bigger and more valuable. Of course she is most thankful for the biggest thing of all: being someone's mother. Read all her reflections On Gratitude over at A Chronic Dose and find her on Twitter as @chronicdose.
Gratitude for the Awesome is a short, sweet and heartfelt post and photo collage featuring Rachel's friends from online health communites...the ones she was fortunate enough to meet in person! View the photos over at Tales of Rachel.
Gratitude Lists
We love lists and Ms. Rants has come up with an interesting twist on one over at her blog Chronic Rants. We don't want to give away the surprise, so you'll just have to go visit her and read 9 Things to Appreciate About a Sick Body for yourself. Then head over to Twitter and exchange some tweets with her as @CIRants.
You gotta love a good top ten list and Sarah, a.k.a the Wheeling Woman, shares one with us that is filled with lots of great things we all can be grateful for. Check out Eleven, Eleven, Eleven! and don't forget to leave her a comment too.
So migraines have taken some things away from Migraine Mimi, but they also have taught her a thing or two about herself and what she is grateful for. In her post An Open Letter to My Migraine, she makes a play on a old standby: the classic pro and con list. Take that, migraines! Mimi is hanging out on Twitter, too, as @migrainemimi.
In a post about gratitude lists, Wendy of Transform Your Chronic Life points out that using a written reminder can help us see the positives in our lives, especially when we're in a bad place and everything seems awful. Read more of her helpful suggestions in Where is Your Attention Focused?: Positive Thinking for the Chronically Ill. Find Wendy on Twitter as @kimmieCollas.
Grateful I Can Do This
Laurie from Hibernationnow is going through a real rough patch with her living situation and her husband's unexpected temporary disability. It's all culminated in her daughter, her husband and herself having to live out of a one room motel room for the last three months. So how has she managed it? One word: Gratitude.
Wendy took the time to really think about what she is grateful for, beyond her super-supportive friends and precious husband. That made her realize that one of the other things she is most thankful for is her blog Picnic with Ants. Check out how blogging is helping her cope with Meniere’s Disease (among other things) in Gratitude.
Even though they don't have Thanksgiving in the U.K., that hasn't stopped Helen, the Creaky Girl, from thinking about her blessings. She's got bunches of people who are making her life a bit easier and helping her be able to get important things done. See why she considers herself One Lucky Girl and follow her on Twitter as @creaky_girl.
Choosing Gratitude
Chronic pain and fatigue certainly don't inspire gratitude in anyone. But getting fixated on your symptoms can take you to place you really don't want to go either. Selena shows us how she learned to overcome her gratitude deficit in her post Developing an Attitude of Gratitude. Her blog is Oh My Aches and Pains! and she tweets as @SelenaMKI.
In her post on Gratitude, Jo discusses on how it can be hard to feel grateful when your quaility of life is severely affected by chronic illness. Which means, when it really comes down to it, gratitude is a choice she is making about how she is living her life and enjoying what she can of it. Find Jo blogging at Everyday Wishes and on Twitter follow her at @jorawstron.
Peter of Healing Well is the fabulous ChronicDude joining us this time. He shares that living with Chron's disease has transformed him into a better person. By switching his focus to the things that really matter, he has been Cultivating Gratitude. Oh and don't forget to follow him on Twitter as @HealingWell too!
Give us some feedback...
We love running our blog carnival! But maybe there's room for improvement, so we want to hear your suggestions. Let us know what you think of this edition in the discussion down below in our comments section.
...and join us next time!
Want to participate in the next blog carnival? Our next edition is scheduled for Monday, November 28 and it's about food, glorious food...or not-so-glorious food. Live with a condition that changes your eating habits? Trying out a food that's supposed to be good for your condition? Have a kick-ass recipe? We want to hear all about it!
If you want to participate, send us your name (as you would like it to appear), the name of your blog, the name of (and link to!) your post, and a 1-2 sentence description of the post. PLUS: Give us your Twitter handle, too! We'll let you know if you're accepted. Send all that to chronic babe @ gmail dot com. The deadline is Friday, November 25 at 10pm CST.
And thanks again to Selena from Oh! My Aches & Pains
She always does a bang-up job of pulling together our blog carnival when Editrix Jenni is swamped. Yay, Selena! XO
