Food TV is porn for celiacs
a note from the Editrix: ChronicBabe Sarah in Chicago wrote to us to say she had a funny story about chronic illness, but no blog to give it a home. Never fear! ChronicBabe.com is here. Read on to hear why she thinks food TV is porn-a-licious...
by Sarah, a ChronicBabe in Chicago
I consider myself very fortunate that with my celiac disease, most of the time, I am symptom-free. However, my lifestyle, in SO many ways, keeps my illness front and center in my life. Which I'm OK with. (Most of the time.)
I take celiac very seriously, so I can get pretty intense about it. I get really intense about the gluten-free diet, and raising awareness about the implications of undiagnosed and untreated celiac (or cheating on the gluten-free diet!).
But my very serious illness has also "tuned me in" to an absolutely hilarious scenario.
I'm addicted to Food on TV. Food Network, Cooking Channel, HGTV cooking shows. Discovery Channel and Travel Network.
I'm obsessed. I watch it ALL THE TIME. it's PORN FOR CELIACS.
It's total fantasy. I will never have most of it. The food they eat on these shows either isn't gluten-free, or isn't cooked in a environment that could accommodate a gluten-free diet. It's virtual indulgence.
It's absolutely empty sensory stimulation....and I love it.
I hope others can have a laugh!
