Alert: Beadin' Beagle offers alternatives to traditional medical alert bracelets

by Jenni Prokopy, the Editrix (props to Jo-Elle!)

Once again, a reader alerts us to the existence of foxy medical alert jewelry! The Beadin' Beagle offers cute, original alternatives to the same-old same-old.

I can't speak from experience, but I hear that many women (and men, and boys and girls) hate the look of traditional medical alert jewelry. It's clunky, it's impersonal, and -- especially if you're a teenager -- it's considered by many lame twerps to be dorky.

So here at ChronicBabe we collect ideas for alternatives to traditional medical alert jewelry. All the photos here are of pieces made by the Beadin' Beagle.

On her site, owner Tina Sprigg says: "I use only the finest Swarovski Crystals and Pearls, all sterling silver charms, clasps and findings and unique beads I have found during my beading adventures. Each piece is custom made to your request and can be altered, sized or created to fit your taste and lifestyle."

Designed With a Friend in Mind

Sprigg gained her inspiration for this idea from a friend who was seeking a medical identification bracelet that was outside the mainstream of those typically offered in drug stores or retail stores.

Combining her already existing line of jewelry, Tina incorporated the medical plates into her jewelry.  After posting them on her web site, the bracelets received generous momentum in popularity.

"The response has been overwhelming," explains Sprigg. Her younger customers are particularly pleased. "Customers are happy to have a bracelet that children (with medical conditions) will wear without embarrassment."

Cute alternatives abound on Sprigg's site. One of my favorites is this handbag charm -- and she sells charms that can hang from belt loops, ankle bracelets -- anything that can be adorned. Styles also include leather, pearls, crystals, silver and gold.

Prices for the jewelry items range from $25.00 to $50.00.  The Beadin’ Beagle offers line for adults and children.

Check them out -- and let us know what you think! And as always, if you have more recommendations, send them along.
