Back in the saddle!
by Jenni Prokopy, the Editrix
Hi folks, I know it's been quiet, and that's probably been frustrating for many of you. But we're back at it, starting today!
Matt came by a few days ago and installed a nifty ergonomic keyboard tray to replace mine, and hubby Steve and I snagged a couple things we could pull out of our storage locker, so my office is finally put together. (Matt took my picture in the new office. It's super-beige compared to what I'm used to, but it has a roof, so I like it.)
We're almost through with the majority of our insurance claim paperwork (mountains of it!), and I have a kitchen to cook in, and some tools to make jewelry with, and I'm back to working out at least a few days a week, so...it's time to get back to some semblance of a normal schedule. And that means ChronicBabe posts and bits!
I'm sure a few of you out there understand what we've been going through, but if you've never experienced being displaced because your home is trashed by a storm, I've got a lot of learning for you. If there's anything I've gleaned from this experience, it's that you never know when something bad can happen - and it's good to be prepared. So over the next few months, I'll be writing articles that offer advice and commentary on how ChronicBabes can prepare for whatever may come. And I'll offer up some coping skills for when bad things DO happen.
And we'll get back to our regular schedule of insightful articles, recipes, and entertaining bits to keep you satisfied.
Thanks for your patience while Steve and I work out the kinks. I always knew my sister went through a ton of heartache and work after Hurricane Katrina hit her beautiful city of New Orleans, but I really couldn't appreciate just how hard it must have been for her until now. (Not that our situation is the same, because it's only a fraction of what she - and thousands of others - experienced.)
To be away from home, to lose control over the routines that keep you healthy and sane, to have to rely on so many people for so many things, to put your trust and faith in complete strangers who help you rebuild and replace, to put a value on irreplaceable treasures destroyed by black water, to lose the connections of beloved neighbors and nearby friends, to get used to a new neighborhood, to mourn, to rail against the unfairness, to be blown away by the unexpected generosity of acquaintances, to be overwhelmed at once with confusion and paperwork and gratitude and a rush of emotions, and to do it all while juggling multiple chronic illnesses...that's been my life for the past month.
But I'm back, Babes, and ready to be your fierce Editrix once again.
Much love, Jenni
