Update: Editrix Jenni and Hubby Steve slowly starting to recover (now with photos!)
by Jenni Prokopy, the Editrix
Hi Babes, well we've made some progress. For starters, you may want to read a note my Hubby wrote about our experience - he's a columnist at Ain't It Cool News and this is what he put up for his readers. So that's some background.
As of today, we're still staying with friends. A couple days ago, 17 people (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) came and packed our stuff. My folks arrived the next day to help finish packing, and the next day we moved our remaining stuff into storage. The contractors are starting demo on the building, and it does look like we'll be out for about 6 months.
Meanwhile, some of you have donated through our PayPal button in the upper right hand corner of every page - thank you! We have a ton of expenses and every penny helps. We are touched by your generosity, and by that of all our friends and family. You're all keeping our spirits alive right now.
A few pictures follow so you can see just a hint of what we went through. We're still spending all day and most nights working on stuff, so it will be a few more days before I post a ton of pics on Flickr, but I'll post the link when I do. And soon enough, I'll have tons of pieces on disaster preparedness and crisis management for ChronicBabes, because, well, I GET IT.
Lots of love, and gratitude, Jenni
A few quick pictures of what a 1920's condo building can look like after being hit by a tornado (or microburst, or whatever)
There is a Flickr set showing lots of pics posted as of August 30. Also:
Here's what our roof looked like from the inside, about an hour after it happened (before it started pouring rain again...all night):
And here's what the downed power pole did to a neighbor's car:
And our patio furniture was all crazy and tossed around and broken:
And here's our roof from above right after the storm:
And finally: a dresser drawer full of brown water. Yum!
