Vaginas: A book review

by Jenni Prokopy, the Editrix

We have owners' manuals for nearly everything: toasters, cars, electric toothbrushes. So why not vaginas? Now two authors - a mother and daughter team - bring you Vaginas: An Owner's Manual.

Dr. Carol Livoti, a New York City obstretician-gynecologist, and Elizabeth Topp, a Harvard-educated writer, collaborated in 2004 to publish what I think is just about the best women's health book I've ever read.

The voices of Carol and Liz are really clear in the book - you'll feel like you're hanging out with girlfriends as you read about your basic anatomy, the ins and outs of menstruation, tips on maintenance and health, frank discussions of STDs and fertility, and much more.

The text is peppered with telling anecdotes and facts, jokes and dialogue between the authors. It's a smooth and compelling read, and even the design is attractive. Trust me - you're gonna love this book.

Vaginas: An Owner's Manual is published by Thunder's Mouth Press. Visit the authors' Web site at www.vaginas411.com. And props to Bust magazine, where I first heard of the book!
