Something's been missing...
by Jenni Prokopy, the Editrix
Oh, ladies. I've missed you. It's been a while, hasn't it? Without really planning to, I've taken a couple months off from ChronicBabe work.
It started with taking a little time off in December, then I was sick for weeks, the holidays happened, and the new year kicked off with a huge workload in my freelance writing/consulting business. Suddenly I'm looking at my calendar, and the site, and realizing I've left it horribly neglected.
I'm sorry! I know some of you are really missing a high level of activity here and I think I'm ready to come back to it. But I have questions.
Why I started ChronicBabe, and what it means today
When I got sick more than 15 years ago, I felt so alone. It seemed like my life was over. And it took me years to figure out what to do.
Then, nearly eight years ago, I started talking with friends about my desire to share resources and tools with other women in my shoes. ChronicBabe was launched, and it was an amazing way to connect with folks.
Today, ChronicBabe is a huge community: this site, the forum, the Goodie Bag newsletters, the videos, the Twitter, the Facebook, the speaking gigs, the guest posting at other folks' blogs—it's all been amazing, truly amazing, and a blessing in my life.
At a crossroads
But I'm finding myself at a crossroads today. Adjusting to life as a single lady after being in a relationship for nearly 13 years has been challenging and rewarding—and I've had to grow my company quickly and ferociously to keep up. I spend most of every day working on client projects and growing the business.
That leaves me with very little time and energy in the evenings, which I like to spend winding down. It's tiring running a business and having fibromyalgia! And ladies, I've hit the magic number 40 and I'm feeling it a little bit. Oy.
My challenge is this: I love ChronicBabe, and will always continue to create and share resources. But how do I make the time to do it, when I need to spend most of my time supporting myself? How do I stay relevant? How do I keep offering the resources you want and need? How do I do all this without feeling like I'm repeating the same lessons and ideas over and over?
This is the question I'm pondering daily. And I'd like your help to answer it.
What do you want from ChronicBabe?
I have some ideas about where this project will go in the coming years, but I'm curious to hear from you. What do you find useful? What do you want more of? What would be most valuable to you on this journey with chronic illness? How can I help you?
Please use the comments below to share your thoughts. And please pass this along to anyone you think might have an opinion to share. This project is all about community, so I'm ultra-curious to hear your ideas.
Many thanks to you, my fellow ChronicBabes, for being part of our wonderful community. Much love, Jenni
